Promises for your family
Husbands
Colossians 3:19,20 –
‘Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them.
Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing
to the Lord.’
1 Corinthians 7:3 – ‘Let
the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise
also the wife to her husband.’
1 Timothy 5:8 – ‘But if
anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his
household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.’
Ecclesiastes 9:9 – ‘Live
joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of your vain life
which He has given you under the sun, all your days of vanity; for
that is your portion in life, and in the labour which you perform
under the sun.’
1 Peter 3:7 – ‘Husbands,
likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honour to the
wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the
grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.’
Ephesians 5:25-33 –
‘Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave
Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the
washing of water by the word, that e might present her to Himself a
glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but
that she should be holy and without blemish. So husbands ought to
love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife
loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes
and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. For we are
members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. “For this reason
a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,
and the two shall become one flesh.” This is a great mystery, but I
speak concerning the church. Nevertheless let each one of you in
particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see
that she respects her husband.’
Proverbs 18:22 – ‘He who
finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favour from the Lord.’
Ephesians 5:22-24 –
‘Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband
is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is
the Saviour of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to
Christ, so let wives be to their own husbands in everything.’
Proverbs 31:10-31 – ‘Who
can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. The
heart of her husband safely trusts her; so he will have no lack of
gain. She does him good and not evil all the days of her life. She
seeks wool and flax, and willingly works with her hands. She is like
the merchant ships, she brings forth her food from afar. She also
rises while it is yet night, and provides food for her household,
and a portion for her maidservants. She considers a field and buys
it; from her profits she plants a vineyard. She girds herself with
strength, and strengthens her arms. She perceives that her
merchandise is good, and her lamp does not to out by night. She
stretches out her hand to the distaff, and her hand holds the
spindle. She extends her hand to the poor, yes she reaches out her
hands to the needy. She is not afraid of snow for her household, for
all her household is clothed with scarlet. She makes tapestry for
herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple. Her husband is known
in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land. She makes
linen garments and sells them, and supplies sashes for the
merchants. Strength and honour are her clothing; she shall rejoice
in time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue
is the law of kindness. Her children rise up and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her: “Many daughters have done
well, but you excel them all.” Charm is deceitful and beauty is
passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. Give
her the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise he in the
gates.’
1 Peter 3:1-6 – ‘Wives,
likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do
not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct
of their wives, when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by
fear. Do not let your adornment be merely outward - arranging the
hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel – rather let it be
the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a
gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.
For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in
God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands,
as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are
if you do good and are not afraid with any terror.’
1 Corinthians 7:3 – ‘Let
the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise
also the wife to her husband.’
Proverbs 19:14 – ‘Houses
and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is
from the Lord.’
Marital
Problems
1 Peter 1:22 – ‘Since you
have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in
sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure
heart.’
Proverbs 10:12 – ‘Hatred
stirs up strife, but love covers all sins.’
Ephesians 5:22-28 –
‘Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband
is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is
the Saviour of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to
Christ, so let wives be to their own husbands in everything.
Husbands, love your own wives, just as Christ also loved the church
and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her
with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to
Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such
thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. So husbands
ought to love their wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife
loves himself.’
1 Corinthians 7:1-4 –
‘Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his
own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. Let the husband
render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife
to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body,
but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have
authority over his own body, but the wife does.’
1 Peter 3:1,2,7 – ‘Wives,
likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do
not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct
of their wives, when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by
fear. Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving
honour to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs
together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be
hindered.’
Genesis 2:18, 24 – ‘And
the Lord said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make
him a helper comparable to him.” Therefore a man shall leave his
father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become
one flesh.’
Financial Stress
Psalm 34:9,10 – ‘Oh, fear
the Lord, you His saints! There is no want to those who fear him.
The young lions lack and suffer hunger; but those that seek the Lord
shall not lack any good thing.’
Malachi 3:10-12 – ‘“Bring
all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My
house, and try Me now in this,” says the Lord of hosts, “If I will
not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you blessing
that there will not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke
the devourer for your sakes, so that he will not destroy the fruit
of your ground, nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the
field,” says the Lord of hosts; “And all nations will call you
blessed, for you will be a delightful land,” says the Lord of
hosts.’
Matthew 6:31-33 – ‘Therefore do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “What shall we wear?” For after all these things the Gentiles seek; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.’
Luke 6:38 – ‘Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.’
Psalm 84:11 – ‘For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will he withhold from those who walk uprightly.’
Romans 8:32 – ‘He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?’
